Idea SummaryThe Frassenator is a plastic composter that you put plastic in and get compost out. In my previous science experiments I found that mealworms can eat plastic. My invention is made from a repurposed plastic container. Mealworms digest plastic in the top portion of the invention. The frass (poop) falls through a screen into the lower portion. The lower portion opens up separate from the upper portion. After several trial runs of different methods, this seems the cleanest. This invention is important because there is so much plastic thrown away, everyone needs to think of ways to reduce plastic in the environment. A lot of people already compost food waste, which is great. This will be a way to compost plastic waste. I am going to continue research and hopefully experiments to see if the frass can be safely used on gardens in the future. I read a report where frass from mealworms eating Styrofoam was fed to shrimp and they seemed okay.
