Idea SummaryThough it is possible, the Fairbanks North Star Borough does not recycle styrofoam. Why may this be the case? Perhaps, we are unaware of the technology required to recycle styrofoam or believe that it is more expensive than it actually is. In either case, the US recycles only 1% of the styrofoam produced each year.
I would like to see a styrofoam recycling facility open in Fairbanks. Styrofoam can be made into things like insulation, the soles of shoes, and frames for pictures.
