You chose to provide a short written description (up to 300 words) explaining how your organization makes an impact in the community.Higher Octave Healing (HOH) exists to empower people in our community through music therapy. Using evidence-based practice, HOH’s Board-Certified Music Therapists help hundreds of people each week improve their lives by addressing goal areas including cognition, socialization, physical functioning, emotional regulation, and overall wellness. Clients might create, move to, or write music to help them reach their goals. Music has the unique ability to impact the brain and body to influence positive change, and music therapists bring specialized skill and training to help their clients make meaningful progress through a therapy medium that is often more motivating, flexible, and accessible than more traditional therapeutic intervention. In our Tempe, AZ music therapy clinic, we see around 100 individuals each week, most for challenges related to developmental disabilities. With these clients, therapists use music to help their clients meet physical and cognitive developmental milestones, socialize with peers and gain a positive self-image, and learn life skills they can use to succeed in school, pursue higher education, and have fulfilling careers. Outside the clinic, HOH partners with more than twenty local organizations, providing music therapy services for young children and their families, those receiving treatment for mental and behavioral health disorders, and seniors in hospice care at the end of life. HOH also works to increase access to music therapy by providing clinical education for music therapy students and professionals as well as advocacy for increased availability of and funding for these valuable services. We are committed to increasing access to free and low-cost music therapy services in our community through this advocacy and through collaboration with funders interested in partnering with us in our mission.
