We aim to bridge the gap and increase cancer healthcare accessibility by collaborating with community health professionals and other agencies to reduce the cancer burdens and chronic diseases in the state of Arizona to meet the needs of individuals in the South Phoenix, Maricopa County area.
Our principal activities are encompassed under the Building, Readiness, Awareness, and Community for Early Detection - B.R.A.C.E.D 2 Fight Cancer initiative. This program provides cancer education and awareness to the community by offering one-stop resources and services right where they reside. For the past 4-years, we have partnered with South Mountain Community College, Mayo Clinic, and Faith Missionary Baptist Church and others to host our annual community outreach and awareness event where we provide cancer prevention, survivorship, treatment options, screenings and other services to bring populations and equity in healthcare together to create healthier communities and increase quality of life. We offer mammograms, prostate, and colorectal screenings at no cost to the community. Professional Healthcare providers facilitate educational sessions and create pathways for underserved individuals to access their facilities for treatment and referrals to other services.
B.R.A.C.E.D. Cancer Survivorship is another program implemented to provide resources for cancer survivors through support groups in collaboration with the Coalition for Blacks Against Cancer. For the past five years, Vessels of Possibilities, Inc. has offered various programs to the community, with additional partnerships with Faith Missionary Baptist Church and South Mountain Community College to reach a greater volume of residents. Working with Healthcare professionals, we have added a heart health component to B.R.A.C.E.D to continue reducing disparity gaps and expanding access to healthcare services to meet community needs.
