By providing scholarships, practical support services, and a caring community, we help families break the cycle of poverty and build brighter futures for generations to come.
In 2026, Helping Hands for Single Moms will assist more than 130 single mom college student families throughout Maricopa County. Our Scholarship Plus Program provides financial assistance along with services such as auto repair, housing assistance, family outings, mentoring, and a supportive community that enables mothers to remain focused on completing their education.
This year, we expect 45 single mothers to earn college degrees and begin careers that provide long-term economic stability. Based on recent outcomes, these graduates will earn an average starting salary of more than $67,000 annually, along with employer-provided health insurance and other benefits. Their increased earning power strengthens their families, reduces dependence on public assistance, and contributes to Arizona's economy.
Nursing is our largest scholarship category, reflecting both student interest and a critical community need. By helping single mothers become registered nurses, we are investing in Arizona's healthcare workforce while improving access to quality care. Our graduates serve in hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare settings, making a meaningful difference in the lives of thousands of patients each year.
