Mission
Improve the quality of life of underserved, under resourced and African Americans in Arizona.
The Arizona Center for African American Resources (AZCAAR), a 501(c)(3) organization, is dedicated to improving the quality of life for underserved, under resourced and African American families across Arizona, with a focus on strengthening the families and communities. Many in underserved and under-resourced communities remain disconnected from education, workforce development, literacy, and mental well-being.
For more than sixteen years, AZCAAR has worked alongside community partners to build pathways that strengthen educational achievement, family stability, workforce readiness, and community leadership. Our comprehensive approach addresses barriers that limit opportunity while equipping youth, families, and professionals with the knowledge, resources, and relationships needed to thrive.
Our impact is driven through signature initiatives including KITABU, which promotes literacy, family engagement, and improved educational outcomes; the Evelyn Marie O'Neal Carson Child Welfare Workshop, which provides training on adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), trauma-informed practices, resilience-building protective factors, early literacy, and the importance of play; parent education and early childhood trauma programs that support maternal well-being and help families create healthier, more nurturing environments; and community-based leadership and professional development that expands culturally responsive practices and strengthens community capacity.
As a trusted, community-rooted organization with strong employer partnerships and a proven record of collaboration, AZCAAR is building an ecosystem that creates sustainable opportunities for children, youth and families. Our intentional persistence has enabled us to expand access to strategic spaces and resources that have historically been out of reach for Black-led nonprofits. Every investment in AZCAAR strengthens our capacity to create measurable, lasting community impact, and we remain committed to exceeding the goals and outcomes established through every partnership we undertake.
