You chose to provide a short written description (up to 300 words) explaining how your organization makes an impact in the community.Help A Dog Smile (HADS) is a volunteer and foster-based organization, serving our community since 2012 and adopting out over 1,400 dogs. We are privately funded through adoption fees, donations, and grants only. HADS is different from other rescue organizations because we help dogs that have more extensive veterinary and emotional needs. The veterinary care includes vaccinations, spay and neuter surgeries, dental procedures, and elevated specialty/critical care (e.g., emergency, tumor removals, treating Valley Fever, Tick Fever, cancer care, etc.). In addition to the veterinary care, we fund pet food, boarding, and activities for dogs that need more emotional and social skills support. This type of advanced support is expensive! Our goals are to: 1) Find loving homes for dogs that come to us from the euthanasia list, as strays, owner turn-ins, and other deplorable situations. Once medically, emotionally, and physically rehabilitated the dogs are placed in loving homes with a second chance to live life as loved family members! 2) Help low income and homeless individuals by funding much needed veterinary care, pet food, and other support, which allows the dogs to stay in their loving homes. Our support promotes positive outcomes for both the dog owners and their dogs. 3) Provide dog food and veterinary care to dogs living on the reservation. If the dogs can transition into rescue, we will find loving homes for them. If not, we continue to provide food and veterinary support as funding allows. We keep our adoption fees reasonable; however, in many cases, our medical costs either equal or exceed any adoption fees received. By supporting our community, we strive for a happier and healthier place for animals and their owners. HADS was very humbled to be a grant recipient in 2024. We hope you will consider supporting us again. Thank you.
