You chose to provide a short written description (up to 300 words) explaining how your organization makes an impact in the community.Yavapai Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is a 501(c)(3) service organization based in Prescott Valley, Arizona, with membership from all around Yavapai County. Yavapai DAR is a local chapter of the National Society DAR, whose three missions are patriotism, education, and historic preservation. Yavapai Chapter members volunteer at schools, veterans’ organizations, and throughout the community in various capacities to achieve the mission. In the last year, for example, Yavapai members clocked more than 5,000 hours of volunteer service. Some recent examples of the Yavapai Chapter’s impact on our community are:
• Hosting numerous classroom events at Mayer School, including donating school supplies and providing interactive lessons for special needs children on topics such as Patriot Paul Revere and the Bill of Rights.
• Annually sponsoring an Embry-Riddle Army cadet to be a guardian on an Honor Flight taking AZ military veterans to Washington, DC, to see their memorials.
• Providing for clean-up and preservation of parks and cemeteries in the area, such as Acker Park West on Earth Day and Citizens’ Cemetery prior to Memorial Day.
• Hosting holiday celebrations for the Northern AZ Veterans Administration Hospital in Prescott, such as decorating the hospital lobby for Christmas and serving refreshments and providing gift cards to domiciliary residents for Valentine’s Day and Christmas.
• Donating supplies and funds to other community service organizations to support their missions, such as the Yavapai Food Bank, Stepping Stones Women’s Shelter, Yavapai Prescott Tribe Library, Hopi Indian Education Endowment Fund, and Yavapai Family Advocacy Center, to name a few.
• Participating in and donating wreaths for the annual Wreaths Across America event to honor veterans buried at Prescott National Cemetery.
Using funds from Chapter dues, private member and other donations, and grants such as an AZFCU award, Yavapai Chapter will continue to make meaningful impacts in our community.
