Submission AbstractMoonband is an app-wristband solution that seeks to reduce drownings among children. The band is to be secured on the child’s wrist by a parent. If the band is submerged in water, it immediately sends an iOS notification to a parent’s synced phone via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).
Value Proposition Drowning is the 2nd greatest cause of death for 0-17 year olds. In 90% of drowning cases for this particular age demographic, parents were near their child but unfortunately did not know they were drowning until it was too late. The Mooband team wants to make sure that kids don't become statistics.
How we plan to make moneyWe intend to make a profit by selling each band for $150 and charging a monthly $2 subscription fee for the Moonband iOS application, through which drowning warning notifications are sent. Users will be given a free subscription for the first year of use of the iOS app.
Launch StrategyWe plan on launching Moonband by selling our product through autism organizations in Arizona (91% of deaths for autistic youth under 14 are due to drowning), doctor’s offices, and our online website. In the following years, we plan on expanding to pool stores (Leslie’s) and larger retail stores.
