Project Intent StatementWhile modest in size and budget, the 200sf building is rich in terms of its design, detailing, materiality, and execution. Functionally, the project’s siting, orientation, section design, and use of thermal mass support its primary objective of providing a passively-conditioned environment for hyper-local food production. Aspiring to “do more” than merely serve its purpose as an agricultural out-building, the project explores ideas related to material expression, visible craft, formal gesture, hierarchy of detail, humanistic detailing, durability vs. transience, design for deconstruction, and material efficiency/waste reduction in an effort to create meaningful place supportive of daily gardening ritual.
