Project Intent StatementThe Tomayko Foundation Art Gallery project is an adaptive reuse of an existing structure into a place to foster individual creativity through education in the arts. Dubbing our work “Artistic Revival” refers to the history of the facility as an auto-service station and then medical office, and the process of its interpretation into a contemporary art exhibition space. The collaboration between Owner and Architect focused on a purposeful architectural expression and practical needs resulting in a welcoming space for all gallery visitors. The architecture juxtaposes a newly constructed 1,000 sf gallery space with the existing 2,150 sf existing facility renovation. Site design transformed an old parking lot into a lively welcome plaza that contributes to a busy neighborhood that is experiencing revitalization.
