Submission NameBinghampton University - Hinman Dining Hall
Project Intent StatementHinman Hall is a multi story student dining hall complex located on Binghamton University campus. The project transforms a dated existing cafeteria into the heart western housing zone of campus. It acts as a new gateway to campus for the significant commuter student population. Students arriving in the uphill parking area can now easily and safely move to the lower campus level. The main axis of the building maximizes building activity with communal spaces access to the food and beverage vendors within the building. A new roof terrace and patio provide outdoor space and connection to the north quad lawn. The project is a 90,000-sf renovation and addition of that has transformed the facility into a beehive of student activity. The transformative renovation guts the interior and removes existing exterior envelope of the building down the structure. The reborn facility make an energy efficient state of the art facility to serve future generations of the campus.
