The Army Scholarship Foundation (ASF) awards one-year financial scholarships on an annual basis to qualified and deserving students. The scholarships are a means to reward Army families for the sacrifices our soldiers make every day to serve their nation and as a way to help their spouses and children become leaders in American society. As part of the application and review process, ASF aims to get a complete picture of the student and family. 

Please note that ASF's evaluation process includes a review of financial need. The family adjusted gross income (AGI) must be $160,000 or less on the 2023 or 2024 IRS Form 1040 for the student to apply for ASF's scholarships.

In addition to information about yourself and your school, work, and volunteer activities, you will need to provide a number of attachments to complete your online application. To help you prepare, here is a list of information for you to pull together prior to starting your application.

  1. Parent or Spouse Proof of Service - Statement of Good Service for active duty or Form DD214 for veteran
  2. High School Transcript
  3. College Transcript - if applicable
  4. Applicant Proof of Service - if applicant has own military service: Statement of Good Service for active duty or Form DD214 for veteran
  5. IRS Form 1040 for family - pages 1 and 2 only. If more than four dependents, also include the list of additional dependents. NOTE: The family adjusted gross income (AGI) must be $160,000 or less on the 2023 or 2024 IRS Form 1040 for the student to apply for ASF's scholarships.
  6. FAFSA Submission Summary - FAFSA Form Answers and Student Aid Index (SAI)
  7. Color Photograph
  8. Essay - a 325-word (maximum) essay, selecting one of the following six topics:
    1. What are your values and what do you think is important in life? Why?
    2. Describe your community service or other activities, explaining how this involvement has influenced your life.
    3. Describe an event that affected you in some way i.e. socially, physically, emotionally or spiritually, giving better insight into you as a person.
    4. What does the opportunity for higher education mean to you and what will you do with it?
    5. How have America's military values influenced your life?
    6. Who is your hero?

One-year scholarships are awarded annually and are limited to undergraduate studies at accredited educational/technical institutions. Scholarships are not automatically renewable. Current scholarship recipients must reapply each year with a complete application and are limited to a total of four awards.

To be eligible, an applicant must be:

  • A U.S. citizen.
  • A high school senior, high school graduate, or a registered undergraduate student who will be attending an accredited college/university or vocational/technical institution in the fall working on an undergraduate degree. ASF scholarships are limited to your first undergraduate degree only.
  • The child of a serving regular active duty, active duty Reserve, or active duty National Guard U.S. Army member in good standing, OR the child of a former U.S. Army member who has retired, received an Honorable Discharge or Medical Discharge, or was killed/died while serving in the U.S. Army. Children of soldiers must apply prior to their 24th birthday.  OR
  • The spouse of a serving enlisted regular active duty, active duty Reserve, or active duty National Guard U.S. Army member in good standing. Spouses of soldiers do not have an age limit.
  • Have a 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 point system.
  • Have a family adjusted gross income (AGI) of $160,000 or less as stated on IRS Form 1040, Line 11 for 2023 or 2024.

As part of the application process, you will be required to sign a consent form for your application to be reviewed by the selection committee and for information contained in the application (excluding personal financial data) to be used for marketing and fundraising purposes if you are awarded a scholarship.
