APPLICANT GUIDELINES & CRITERIA

College University Applicant Description

1. Submit a complete scholarship application through Reviewr, which includes the following:

a. Demonstrate substantial academic achievement and submit a copy of the following documents: unofficial high school transcript and ACT or SAT scores.

b. Submit a typed essay (double-spaced and no longer than two pages) or a 3-minute video essay. The essays are scored according to the following criteria:

  • Details of your plans for attending college and pursuing a college degree,
  • Information on how the scholarship will help you achieve your educational goals
  • Information demonstrating your financial need,
  • Information about your service to the community or school district, if any.

c. Submit two letters of recommendation written by a schoolteacher, staff member, or school administrator. (**Must be on school letterhead**)

2. A graduating senior from an accredited public or charter high school in New Mexico.
3. The school district or charter high school is a current member of NMASBO.
4. Enroll and attend a college or university in the State of New Mexico as a full-time student (12 or more semester hours/credits).
5. Available to all New Mexico High School Seniors graduating after the 2023-24 academic year with no emphasis placed on ethnicity or gender.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • The Scholarship Committee will select six regional applicants to be awarded an NMASBO Scholarship worth $1,500.
  • Two deserving students will be awarded a $2,500 Joni Heinsohn & Joey Montaño Memorial Scholarship. These scholarships have a higher emphasis on financial needs (must meet scholarship criteria). Upon enrollment verification, the scholarship will be made payable to your student's account at the college or university.
  • If you do not become a full-time student in the 2024 Fall Semester, your scholarship will be forfeited.
  • Applications must meet the above criteria to be accepted.
  • Applications must be submitted online through Reviewr no later than Friday, March 1, 2024.

Technical Trade School Applicant Description

1. Submit a complete scholarship application through Reviewr, which includes the following:

a. Submit a copy of the following: an unofficial high school transcript.
b. Submit a typed essay (double-spaced and no longer than two pages) or a 3-minute video essay. The essays are scored according to the following criteria:

  • Details of your plans for attending a technical trade school,
  • Information on how the scholarship will help you achieve your educational goals
  • Information demonstrating your financial need,
  • Information about your service to the community or school district, if any.

c. Submit two letters of recommendation written by a schoolteacher, staff member, school administrator, or an individual who can attest to your desires to pursue your technical trade certification. (**Must be on school or official letterhead**)

2. A graduating senior from an accredited public or charter high school in New Mexico.
3. The school district or charter high school is a current member of NMASBO.
4. Enroll and attend a technical trade school as a full-time student.
5. Available to all New Mexico High School Seniors graduating after the 2023-24 academic year with no emphasis placed on ethnicity or gender.
