NAESP Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of NAESP has the fundamental responsibility of providing oversight for the organization’s fulfillment of its mission. The board sets direction for the association and is responsible for approving the budget and providing financial oversight, establishing policy, and ensuring the Association’s resources for carrying out its mission. Contact current board members to learn more about their roles and experiences on the board. Questions about the application process should be directed to Governance Services Assistant Executive Director, Jennifer Shannon at jshannon@naesp.org.

Application Deadline

Eligibility

Applicants must have a current Active or Assistant Principal membership with NAESP and be assigned to a specific school(s) responsible for the supervision of teachers and children.

Term of Office

Three-year term of office beginning August 1, 2027 and ending July 31, 2030

Upon election to office, NAESP officers serve the first year as vice president, the second year as president-elect, and the third year as president.

During each of the three years, NAESP Officers are expected to attend up to four meetings of the Steering Committee and the Board of Directors (3-4 days each) and up to four major events of the Association (2-3 days each) for a total of approximately 15-17 days. Some of the days fall over a weekend, requiring less time away from the Officers’ schools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed at least 2 years of experience on the NAESP Board
  • Ability to represent NAESP globally and with a national lens
  • Demonstrated track record of working collaboratively 
  • Higher consideration given to candidates who have served as an officer on their state board

Rules

Process

  • The Nominating Committee will meet virtually on November 4, 2026, to review and determine the two candidates on the ballot for vice president.
  • Candidates seeking the position of vice president will participate in a live Q&A interview session via Zoom at a designated time during the meeting of the Nominating Committee.
  • Prior to the interview session with the Nominating Committee, candidates will receive two of the three questions; however; the third question will be asked to elicit a spontaneous response from the candidates.
  • Candidates will be notified of their selection immediately following the meeting.
  • Candidates selected for the ballot for vice president will be permitted to communicate, through NAESP with NAESP assistance, with eligible voters via email three times during the election period of December through February.
  • The election for vice president is February 9-19, 2026.

Policies

Please review the policies below which include the nomination procedures and campaign guidelines for candidates seeking the office of NAESP Vice President. Additionally, it is imperative that you review the Policy 100.4 Financial Reimbursement to the School District to Enable the NAESP President to Remain in His/Her School Position with your superintendent. Should your candidacy be successful, an agreement shall be made between you, the school district, and the Executive Director in writing at least three months prior to assuming the office of President.
