Applications for the Dean's Leadership Scholars 2026-27 cohort must be completed by the end of the day, March 16.

About

The College of Engineering Dean’s Leadership Scholars are outstanding undergraduate students selected for their academic and leadership prowess. To qualify, students must have a minimum GPA of 3.5. Those selected serve as a high-level sounding board for the Dean of Engineering and offer feedback on strategy and new initiatives advancing Purdue Engineering’s mission of being the largest, best prepared, and most diverse engineering talent pool in the nation; the top engineering college for research impact; and a strong engine for advancing the state and the nation.

Application

Each year, an announcement will be sent to students, inviting qualified undergraduate students who are interested in the program to apply. A link in the email will direct students to an online application.

Current Scholars will participate in the screening and selection process.

Scholars are selected by the Dean of Engineering.

The selected Scholars will be notified by email that they have been selected by the end of the Spring semester.

Minimum Requirements

The Scholars must be currently enrolled in the First-Year Engineering program or one of the schools or divisions in the College of Engineering.

They must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and have completed at least one semester of the First-Year Engineering program.

Expectations

Attendance at two to four meetings per year with the Dean of Engineering and one fall semester event with the Engineering Advisory Council, a group of distinguished alumni, industry, academic, and government leaders who serve in an external advisory role to the Dean.

Prior to the meetings with the Dean, topics on which the Dean wishes to receive feedback will be sent to the Scholars in advance. Scholars are expected to come to the meetings informed about the topics and prepared to share feedback.

Together, the Dean’s Leadership Scholars identify an area of need and conduct an annual leadership project as a group in service to Purdue Engineering. For example, the Purdue Engineering Up-Skill Platform, an online collection of tools, learning materials, and services, was conceived and developed by the Dean’s Leadership Scholars.
