The Jett Family Excellence in Teaching Award recognizes a USD 305 secondary teacher who has shown compassion for all students and exhibited creative and innovative teaching strategies.

The award is designed to encourage, reward, and publicly acknowledge excellence in teaching by members of USD 305’s secondary teachers. One secondary teacher whose record of outstanding teaching within and outside the classroom will be recognized annually with a gift of $500.

The late Dr. Harry Jett, his wife Ann, and their family have a long history of supporting education for students in USD 305. The Jett’s previously established a scholarship in memory of their son, David H. Jett who attended Salina Central High School from 1972-1976. Ann Jett, who taught in USD 305 and also served as a trustee of the Salina Education Foundation, established this award to celebrate the outstanding contributions of secondary teachers within USD 305.

Recommendation Due Date: March 1, annual (the 2025 due date is extended to April 1)

Letters of Recommendation from a USD 305 student, a staff member, or the general public must include:

  1. Name of the Teacher
  2. USD 305 Middle or High School classes taught
  3. How the teacher showed compassion for students and a love of teaching
  4. A description of an innovative project the teacher created which engaged all students.

Those being recommended must be a secondary teacher within USD 305 and demonstrate creative and innovative teaching strategies.
