NAAIA NATIONAL IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE

2025 NAAIA JL TILLMAN SCHOLARSHIP

Mission: The NAAIA J. L. Tillman Scholarship was created to promote higher educational opportunities for African-American students interested in careers within the insurance industry. Consistent with the ideals in which NAAIA’s Founder, Jerald L. Tillman, started NAAIA, the Scholarship Fund will encourage more African Americans to strongly consider careers within the insurance industry.

 

2025 Scholarship Availability: Fourteen (14) Scholarships in the amount of $5,000.00 each will be awarded to selected applicants.

 

Primary Qualifying Criteria:

  1. Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen.

  2. Applicant must have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA.

  3. Applicant must be: 

    1. a graduating High School Senior who is college bound (Class of 2025) 

      1. Applicant must show college/university acceptance letter and acceptable proof that commitment 

      • OR

    2. A full-time college student:

      • Graduating in December 2025 or later

      • Attending an accredited college or university

      • Pursuing an associates or bachelors degree

    • or,

    • A full-time college student:

  4. Preferred degrees include: Risk Management, Insurance, Business, Math, Actuarial Science, Computer Technology, Marketing, an associated field of study or be interested in pursuing a career in the insurance industry. 

  5. Applicant must submit a complete Scholarship Application Packet on or before the deadline date. All entries must be received on or prior to the deadline of May 15, 2025.

 

Essay Topic & Instructions:

Part 1: Explore the impact of the dismantling of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives & programs can impact your education, the Insurance Industry and society as a whole. 

AND

Part 2: Describe how insurance may offer a career track option for you based upon your aspirations?

 

Essay Instructions:

  • Essays should be double spaced and limited to two pages, no less than 500 words and no more than 1000 words per part.

  • Essays must contain specific facts and reasoning which support your case.

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) enhanced essays will not be considered.

 

Additional Submission Requirements:

  • Three letters of Reference. Two from teachers or counselors; one can be from a community person (such as a minister, mentor, employer, etc.).

  • A copy of your most recent high school or college transcript.

  • High school students or graduates who are enrolling in college must provide documentation confirming your ACT score of 23 or higher or SAT combined score of 1200 or higher. (Not required if you are already attending college)

  • College acceptance letters must be provided prior to receiving award (if chosen).

 

Scholarship winners will be announced by June 26, 2025 at the NAAIA Membership Town Hall.
