NAESP Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of NAESP has the fundamental responsibility of providing oversight for the organization’s fulfillment of its mission. The board sets direction for the association and is responsible for approving the budget and providing financial oversight, establishing policy, and ensuring the Association’s resources for carrying out its mission. Contact current board members to learn more about their roles and experiences on the board. Questions about the application process should be directed to Governance Services Assistant Executive Director, Jennifer Shannon at jshannon@naesp.org.

Application Deadline

November 1, 2026

Eligibility

Applicants must have a current Active or Assistant Principal membership with NAESP and be assigned to a specific school(s) responsible for the supervision of teachers and children.

Term of Office

Three-year term of office beginning August 1, 2027-July 31, 2030

Directors are expected to attend up to four meetings of the Board of Directors (3-4 days each) and up to four major events of the Association (2-3 days each) for a total of approximately 13-15 days. Some of the days fall over a weekend, requiring less time away from the Directors schools. Please review the policy and roles and responsibilities documents that define the specific requirements you will be expected to fulfill.

Process

For those applying for Director in Zones *5, 7, 9: NAESP will send applications to the appropriate Zone Directors following the November 1 deadline. The Zone Director in each Zone will disseminate all applications received to the NAESP State Representatives in their Zone. The Zone Director is responsible for chairing a process with the NAESP State Representatives in the Zone for electing the next Zone Director. NAESP does not handle Zone elections. For questions about specific election procedures, please contact your NAESP Zone Director.

*Zone 5 Note: Due to Zone 5's rotation system, only members from Kentucky are eligible to apply this year.

For those applying for the Director At Large position: The director at large is elected by the board during their February 2026 board meeting.
