The South St. Paul Educational Foundation was established in 1984 to provide support to the South St. Paul public schools. Scholarships are funded by generous donors who believe in supporting South St. Paul students further their post-secondary goals. There are 140 scholarships this year and you need to complete the form as accurately as you can so that you are applying for everything you eligible for based on the criteria listed for each one.

Read the information regarding each scholarship carefully to determine whether or not you are eligible.  There are many scholarships available for students attending an accredited or licensed trade, technical or vocational institution, or 4-year school.  A student must attend the type of school specified in the scholarship criteria.  Please note - the bio section that you complete will be read out loud at the presentation.  Do not write anything that you do not want to be publicly announced.

It is VERY IMPORTANT that you complete the online application carefully as awards are made solely on the information that you provide.  During applicataion process online, you will be need to send the link to two teachers of your choice to complete a Teacher Recommendation Form available on this site at the end of your application.  These will be used to enhance your chances of receiving a scholarship.

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA

Vocational Technical Scholarship

A recipient of this type of scholarship must attend a licensed or accredited trade, technical, or vocational institution.

Post-secondary Scholarship

A recipient of this type of scholarship may attend a licensed or accredited trade, technical, or vocational training institution, or a two or four-year college or university.

SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS

For scholarship purposes, your cumulative grade point average through the first trimester of senior year will be used.

The Fannie Gilbertson Grant-In-Aid Award will be awarded to the students placing first and second in the class. The Kenneth B. Jones Scholarship will be awarded to the student who is first in the class. This award is based on GPA through the second trimester senior year; receipts of these shall not prevent these students from receiving a Foundation scholarship if they are otherwise qualified.

Qualifying students will receive one scholarship each with the exception of the above.

Financial need is determined by a federal formula, and the calculation is derived from the FAFSA student aid estimator (https://studentaid.gov/aid-estimator/) for financial aid. SSP student applicants with financial need are ranked in relation to one another.

A student who receives a total scholarship (tuition, room, board, and books) to an accredited institution from a source other than the Foundation will be ineligible to receive a Foundation scholarship. If your scholarship does not include books and/or room and board, you are eligible to receive a Foundation scholarship.

You may be considered for a scholarship that you did not select but do meet scholarship criteria.

SCHOLARSHIP POLICY

Scholarships may be carried over with the Foundation approval for 2 years.

A written request is required for approval to carry over a scholarship. This must be received by August 1st of the year in which the award was given.

A student identification number for the institution you are attending must be presented to the Foundation upon request for payment. If you receive a scholarship, you will receive a form to complete with this information.

Scholarship payments will be sent directly to the institution.

If the recipient does not remain in school any unused money will be returned to the Foundation for the donor.
