The UAF Arctic Innovation Competition is Alaska’s original idea contest created by Dr. Ping Lan and launched in 2009. AIC is run by the UAF College of Business and Security Management and currently awards over $45,000 in cash prizes and awards.

The AIC is easy to enter – no prototype or business plan is required (although they are recommended). Individuals and teams of all ages may enter, and there is no entry fee.

The Arctic Innovation Competition is open to anyone with an innovative idea.

  • All ideas must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Alaska Daylight Time (AKDT) on Friday, March 3, 2023 in order to be eligible for the 2023 competition.
  • All ages are welcome. Please select the appropriate age division when submitting your idea. If your team has members that fall under multiple age divisions, enter the division that fits the oldest member of your group.
  • Individuals or teams are welcome. Please only create one user account per team (or individual).
  • Only residents from North America are eligible to submit entries at this time.
  • No prototype or business plan is necessary to enter.  However, they are recommended.
  • No entry fee is required. The competition is free to enter.
  • Multiple ideas may be submitted. However, the same idea CANNOT be submitted to multiple divisions. If you previously submitted an idea and won a cash prize, you may not submit that same idea again.
  • Ideas or projects presented in other venues are eligible for submission. For example, you may submit projects that have been presented in classes, science fairs, summer camps, or other competitions.
  • If you are selected as a finalist, you will be responsible for working with the AIC team to present your idea virtually using the platform provided.
  • If you are entering as a team, you must disclose all team members.  While there is no limit to the number of team members, no more than four people may present at the final competition.
  • If you place in the top ranking for any AIC division, a one-year break is required before you may submit an idea to any AIC division again. For example, if you won third place in AIC 2021, you would wait out on 2022, and can submit a NEW idea in 2023.
  • You will be able to edit your submission up until the final submission deadline – 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2023.
