University of Houston Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship

LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP is a $6,000 Scholarship for freshmen or transfer students entering the University of Houston in the upcoming Fall semester.

  • The scholarship is restricted to the children and grandchildren of University of Houston alumni
  • The award is a four-year scholarship for incoming freshmen/transfers in the amount of $750/semester ($1,500/year)
  • Award is renewable for each of the student’s sophomore, junior, and senior semesters (fall and spring) without application, but contingent upon awardee remaining in good academic standing at the University of Houston, making satisfactory progress towards a UH undergraduate degree, and maintaining a full-time course load.
  • GPA in first year must be 2.5 or higher
  • GPA in second through fourth year must be 3.0 or higher
  • Awardees must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credit hours for undergraduates and 9 credit hours for graduate students
  • Application review includes student’s academic performance, leadership, community service, honors, and career goals in the form of a required essay.
  • There are no restrictions to applicants based on sex, race, nationality, country of origin, physical disability, veteran status, or sexual orientation.
  • Awardees may accept other scholarships, grants, or awards to which they are entitled.

Asian Alumni Scholarships

Julie Cao Scholarship

This scholarship is for Vietnamese students at the University of Houston.

      • Complete online application
      • Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 per semester (on a 4.0 scale)
      • Undergraduates must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credit hours
      • Graduates must be enrolled for a minimum of 9 credit hours
      • Students must be in good academic standing
      • Two short essays are required: In 250 words or less, please express how your Asian origin has helped or hindered your life so far; and what your aspirations are following graduation. Second, please share with us your participation in extracurricular activities, awards/honors, community service or leadership positions, including degree of involvement.

Johnson Tsui Scholarship

           This scholarship is for students of Asian Heritage at the University of Houston, with more than 15 hours completed and at least 30 more hours before graduation.

      • Complete online application
      • Undergraduates must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credit hours
      • Graduates must be enrolled for a minimum of 9 credit hours
      • Students must be in good academic standing
      • Two short essays are required: In 250 words or less, please express how your Asian origin has helped or hindered your life so far; and what your aspirations are following graduation. Lieng-Pham Scholarship

           This scholarship is for students of Asian Origin at the University of Houston.

      • Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 per semester (on a 4.0 scale)

      • Graduates must be enrolled for a minimum of 9 credit hours, and have 18 or more credit hours remaining

Austin Alumni Scholarship

This scholarship is for graduating seniors and current full-time undergraduates who have been accepted to the University of Houston (main campus) and live or attended a high school in Travis County or Williamson County.

      • Complete online application
      • If currently enrolled, must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 per semester (on a 4.0 scale)
      • Undergraduates must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credit hours
      • Students must be in good academic standing
      • The scholarship money can only be used on courses taken at UH (main campus)
      • Two short essays are required: In 500 words or less, write a statement describing your community and campus involvement or leadership roles, and how these activities have shaped your future career plans. Second, write a statement describing how a scholarship would assist you.

Jesse Clayton Jacobs Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is for an LGBTQ Student enrolled at the University of Houston.

  • Must be actively engaged within the LGBTQ Resource Center, an LGBTQ+ community organization, or have demonstrated LGBTQ+ advocacy within the community
  • Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 per semester (on a 4.0 scale)

This scholarship is for a student that has faced a significant life challenge such as a loss of sibling, parent, guardian, victim/survivor of drunk/drugged driving, critical illness, disability or similar life changing event.

This scholarship consists of 5 awards for the following:

1. International Student Scholarship (1) - For an international student of Pakistani Heritage (on an F-1 student visa)

2. Local Student Scholarship (1) - For a local student of Pakistani Heritage

3. Diversity Scholarship (1) - For a student of Non-Pakistani Heritage

4. Bauer College Scholarship (2) - (1) for a student of Pakistani Heritage in the Bauer College and (1) for a student of Non-Pakistani Heritage in the Bauer College

This scholarship consists of awards for three International Students from Karachi, Pakistan

This scholarship consists of awards for two International Students from Karachi, Pakistan

Ashfaq and Sadaf Wadiwala Scholarships

This scholarship consists of awards for (1) an international student on an F-1 student visa and (1) a U.S. High School Graduate of Pakistani Heritage

  • Must not be a recipient of any other UHPA scholarship
  • Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 per semester (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Undergraduates must have completed at least 12 credit hours at the University of Houston at the time of application
  • Graduate students must have completed at least 9 credit hours at the University of Houston at the time of application
  • Sign and submit a FERPA release form authorizing UHPA to verify the necessary information. 
  • Write a 300–500-word essay explaining how their Pakistani heritage has shaped their experiences and influenced their goals for the future, including any challenges or opportunities it has brought into their life.

Literacy in Houston (LIH) Scholarship

This scholarship consists of an award for a South Asian Female undergraduate from a low-income household

  • Complete online application
  • Must not be a recipient of any other UHPA scholarship
  • Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 per semester (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Undergraduates must have completed at least 12 credit hours at the University of Houston at the time of application
  • Sign and submit a FERPA release form authorizing UHPA to verify the necessary information. 
  • Submit two short essays (300–500 words each):
  • Essay 1: Discuss adversities you are facing in pursuing a college education.
  • Essay 2: Explain why an educated female is important for the well-being of society

An-Nisa's Voice of Impact Scholarship

This scholarship consists of an award for a student in the Graduate College of Social Work at the University of Houston
