About Wing
Founded in 2019, Wing is a semester-long mentoring program that pairs upper-level and graduate architecture students with young professionals who have completed the AIA Chicago Bridge program. Initially launched at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the program has since expanded to include the Illinois Institute of Technology and the University of Illinois Chicago, creating a diverse and collaborative cohort each semester.
Wing blends informal social gatherings with structured conversations centered on career paths, portfolio development, and preparing for professional practice. Throughout the semester, mentors and mentees meet one-on-one to discuss individual goals, receive feedback on academic work, and build meaningful relationships that support the transition into the field. In addition to one-on-one mentorship, the cohorts gather periodically for discussions, panels, and networking.
Wing provides students with:
- Personalized guidance on academic and career goals
- Constructive feedback on studio projects, portfolios, and résumés
- Exposure to architectural practice in both office and field settings
- Meaningful connections that support the transition from school to the profession
- Connected architectural network that supports career growth
- Peer support
