Young Women In Bio (YWIB) launched the YWIB Ambassador program in 2020 for students interested in championing and supporting the organization’s efforts to create educational and leadership opportunities in STEM for young women. Each school year, YWIB welcomes approximately 20 students to the new class of Ambassadors.

Who should apply?

Apply to be a YWIB Ambassador if you:

  • Have a passion for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and/or Math)
  • Demonstrate leadership and/or have an interest in promoting STEM within your school, community, and through social media
  • Identify as a young woman and are a rising freshman, sophomore, or junior in high school within the US or Montreal
  • Want to meet and interact with other students with a passion for STEM
  • Have an interest in advancing YWIB’s mission

Ambassador Responsibilities

YWIB Ambassadors will:

  • Build their knowledge of STEM through ongoing learning
  • Attend virtual or in-person events and programs hosted by National and local YWIB chapters
  • Design and lead an educational event 
  • Help promote local STEM activities
  • Support YWIB social media campaigns that promote awareness of women in STEM
  • Participate in STEM-building activities with their local YWIB chapter and WIB-National
  • Complete a final reflection on their impact and growth

All YWIB Ambassadors who successfully complete the program receive a scholarship to support their efforts to effect positive change in the world of STEM.

Before applying, please look over our list of virtual events and ensure that you will be able to attend at least four per semester.  Please note that topics are subject to change.  The events listed are the only events that qualify a YWIB Ambassador to earn a scholarship. We do not offer make-up events.

All events are on Sundays from 5-6:30 pm ET/2-3:30 pm PT

Applicants must be in grades 9, 10, or 11 during the 2026-2027 school year.

Applicants must reside in the United States or Canada.

Applicants must provide contact information for one reference.  The reference cannot be a family member.

All applicants must upload a resume. 

All Ambassadors who participate in four events and one social media campaign each semester (August - December and January - June), complete a capstone project, and submit a final report will receive a $500 scholarship awarded in August 2027.
