Thank you for your interest in the Auburn Alumni Association’s Young Alumni Council. The council is comprised of 30 members representing a variety of colleges, graduation years and geographic locations, whose primary mission is to support the goals and mission of Auburn Advancement, specifically on matters pertaining to young alumni. Auburn Advancement defines a young alumni as a graduate who is 40 years old or younger. Applications for the council are now being accepted and are due no later than December 1, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. 

Young Alumni Council Primary Responsibilities 

  • Increase young alumni engagement and connect young alumni in meaningful ways 
  • Serve as an ambassador for young alumni through assisting with the organization and promotion of young alumni programming 
  • Provide analysis and input for the purpose of improving young alumni programming opportunities 
  • Support the important missions of the Auburn Advancement and Auburn University 

 

 Young Alumni Council Expectations 

  • Serve a three-year term  
  • Attend all quarterly meetings which include two on-campus meetings and two virtual meetings.  
  • Actively participate in local/regional young alumni programming when possible 
  • Make an annual philanthropic gift of any amount to any college/school, department, organization or program at Auburn University 

 

To apply, complete the application and include no more than 2 letters of recommendation and a biography/resume. Only complete applications will be reviewed. All applications must be received by December 1, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. (CT). You will have the option to save and continue your application, however, once you submit your application, you will not have the option to return at a later time to complete or add to your application. 

Each completed application will be sent to the selection committee and selected council members will be notified no later than January 16 with the first virtual onboarding council meeting being held on February 6, 2026.

Young Alumni Council – Know Before You Apply

PURPOSE AND MISSION 

  • The Auburn Alumni Association’s Young Alumni Council exists to engage Auburn’s young alumni community, foster meaningful connections, and ensure that Auburn University remains relevant to the next generation. 
  • Members serve as ambassadors of the Auburn spirit, helping young alumni thrive after graduation while supporting the university through service, philanthropy, and connection. 

 

OBJECTIVE 

The Young Alumni Council is comprised of 30 individuals under the age of 40, representing different colleges at Auburn University. 

Council members are responsible for: 

  • Creating meaningful projects and initiatives 
  • Developing professional development opportunities and events 
  • Continuing to engage and connect young alumni back to Auburn University 

 

WHY SHOULD I APPLY?

WHAT IS THE COMMITMENT? 

Time Commitment 

Average: 1–5 hours per month 

Busy Seasons: 

  • Fall: 20 Under 40, alumni and philanthropic events 
  • Spring: Leadership Weekend, Welcome to the City, in-person meetings 
  • Financial Commitment 
  • Travel and lodging for two in-person quarterly meetings (October and April) 
  •  (Many members offset this cost by staying with family and friends) 
  • A philanthropic gift of any amount to the Auburn University is required each year.  
  • Balance 
  • Schedules are shared in advance to allow planning. 
  • Employers and families are supportive of giving back to the institution that is so meaningful to you.  

 

IMPACT OF SERVING ON THE YAC 

  • Build lifelong connections with alumni across the country and across generations. 
  • Create Auburn touchpoints in major cities. 
  • Gain opportunities to lead, serve on committees, and represent Auburn in meaningful ways.

  • Mark your calendar: Prioritize quarterly meetings and key events by adding them in advance. Avoid overcommitting outside of YAC so you can get the most out of this opportunity. 
  • Share your talents: Advocate your strengths and step into the right role. 
  • Get fully involved: Volunteer for special projects, consider serving on the executive committee, and attend social events around in-person meetings. You truly get what you give and when you love Auburn, Auburn loves you back. 
  • Embrace the surprises: Unknowns often lead to rewarding experiences.
