Scholarship Description

The Enrico Fermi Educational Fund of Yonkers, Inc. (www.enricofermi.org) will be offering three types of Scholarships and this year we will be providing nine (9) scholarships in total. They are:

  1. Yonkers Scholarships
    • This Scholarship is open to residents of The City of Yonkers, NY (only) who are of traceable Italian heritage, graduating from an accredited public or private high school, upon graduation plan on attending a college or university. There will be five (5) scholarships of $5,000 each.
  2. Westchester Scholarships
    • This Scholarship is open to residents of Westchester County, NY, excluding The City of Yonkers, who are of traceable Italian heritage, graduating from an accredited public or private high school, upon graduation plan on attending a college or university. There will be three (3) scholarships of $5,000 each.
  3. Science Scholarship
    • This Scholarship is open to legal residents of Westchester County (including Yonkers). The applicant must have the nomination of the high school to apply for this scholarship (only one per school). The Applicant must be of traceable Italian heritage, a resident of Westchester County NY, graduating from an accredited public or private high school who, upon graduation, plans on attending a college or university. It is expected that applicants would be engaged in some form of scientific research, have taken or are currently excelling in AP science courses, and are interested in pursuing a career in a STEM field. There will be one (1) Scholarship of $5,000.

Note that for purposes of residence, your legal residence is based on an actual physical address, not a postal zip code address. 

Important Dates

  • January 6, 2025 - Online Application Process begins, portal opens
  • March 10, 2025 - Online applications closed, portal closes
  • April 5, 2025 (on or about) - Student Recipients notified
  • May 4 , 2025 - 62nd Annual Enrico Fermi Scholarship Breakfast and Recognition Ceremony to be held at Mulino’s at Lake Isle. All recipients are required to attend.

Note that, once awarded, payment of the scholarships will be made to each recipient when actual attendance at the College/University of his/her choice is verified in writing and will be paid in installments ranging from two to four years.

The Enrico Fermi Educational Fund of Yonkers, Inc. offers academic-based scholarships to graduating seniors from an accredited public or private high school. Each student will be evaluated based on their exceptional scholastic achievements, evidence of leadership, service to the school and the community, outstanding character, and evidence of traceable Italian heritage. We recognize that these scholarships are very competitive, considering the superior academic, leadership, extracurricular, community service and other qualities exhibited by applicants and, ultimately, the recipients. The recipients will be selected by The Enrico Fermi Scholarship Committee which is composed of Trustees, Educators and members of our General Committee.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be a senior in high school and graduate from an accredited public or private high school with the graduating class
  • Be of traceable Italian heritage
  • Be a resident of the City of Yonkers for the Yonkers Scholarship, and of Westchester County for the Westchester County and Science Scholarships. Residency is based on the actual physical legal address, not the post office zip code.
  • Have applied or in the process of applying to a recognized and accredited College or University
  • File a completed application on or before the Closing Date of our online application process
  • Once chosen, recipients must be enrolled in an accredited College or University to receive scholarship checks  

The completed online scholarship application must include (note that incomplete applications will be ineligible for consideration): 

  • Demographic information
  • A complete listing of Extracurricular Activities/Sports - Community and School
  • A complete listing of Service Activities- Community and School
  • A complete list of Academic Awards and Honors
  • A complete listing of Work Experiences/ paid and unpaid
  • Short Answer Questions regarding community service, extra curricular activities and work experience.
  • An essay entitled “How your Italian Heritage has influenced you life and goals”
  • Test scores (SAT/ACT if applicable)
  • An official School Transcript including 12th-grade mid-year grades with cumulative GPA and two letters of Recommendation.
