About the Kosciuszko Foundation Exchange Program to the U.S.

The Kosciuszko Foundation Exchange Program to the United States is designed for Polish scholars seeking opportunities to conduct field or archival research, collaborate in laboratories, complete artist residencies or projects, or teach at U.S. institutions.

Open to applicants across all disciplines, the program provides access to world-class academic, research, and creative environments.

Application:

1.  Recommendation Letters 

As part of your application, you must secure three recommenders.

You are responsible for contacting three individuals and asking them to serve as your recommenders

Recommenders—not applicants—must submit the letters through the application system

You will enter their names and email addresses in your application

After you click submit, they will receive an email with instructions to upload their letters

2. Application Documents

Applicants must upload documents (a)–(g). Document (h) applies only to certain categories.

a) Project Proposal

Maximum 500 words (no more than 15% over limit)

Clearly outline your study/research plan

No required template, but clarity and specificity are essential

Notes:

Teaching Fellowship applicants do not need a research proposal unless combining teaching and research

Images and references are not included in the word count

b) Host Institution Letter

A formal invitation from a U.S. institution confirming your affiliation.

Must include:

Host department

Visiting Scholar status

Dates of visit

Purpose of visit

Available resources

Requirements:

You must arrange this independently

One letter only (unless research requires multiple institutions)

Signed, on letterhead, submitted as PDF

c) Curriculum Vitae (CV)

Include:

Education

Professional positions

Teaching and service

Publications (latest first)

Professional activities

Memberships and affiliations

Honors and awards

d) Diploma

Scan of your highest degree diploma

e) Identification

Passport ID page

Polish ID accepted if passport unavailable

f) Photograph

Clear face visible, no sunglasses

Suitable for publication

g) Certificate

Proof of employment or doctoral enrollment (Polish institution)

Rules

Eligibility:

Polish citizens who are Ph.D. students, academic scholars, advanced post-doctoral fellows, instructors, assistant professors, researchers, or artists.

Holders of a “Karta Polaka” who permanently reside in Poland.

Not Eligible:

Poles living outside Poland.

Dual citizens of Poland and the United States.

Individuals holding U.S. permanent residency (Green Card).

Additional Requirements:

A minimum of an M.A. or M.S. degree (preference is given to doctoral or postdoctoral candidates).

Strong proficiency in English, sufficient for effective participation in academic and social settings as well as for carrying out the proposed research or study. English proficiency will be evaluated during personal interviews in Warsaw.

Eligibility for a U.S. exchange visitor J-1 visa.
