The purpose of the Live Like Lou Foundation's Iron Horse Scholarship program is to provide financial support for post-secondary education for students in ALS families and, in honor of baseball Hall of Famer and the Iron Horse, Lou Gehrig, reflect the courage and strength ALS families show when facing the disease. In honor of Lou Gehrig's record for consecutive Major League Baseball games played, the scholarship provides up to $2,130/semester for up to four years/eight semesters. Candidates must be enrolled at a college or university within the United States or Canada for Fall 2025. Award amounts are distributed in two installments, one for each semester/term. The Iron Horse Scholarship is a two-step process. After initial review, all applicants will be notified if they are a finalist. Finalists then must complete a second application to determine who receives an Iron Horse Scholarship.
