Description

The Next Step Career Path Scholarship was created to empower the future of our communities by supporting those pursuing alternative post-secondary education through: trades, vocational programs, public service, or apprenticeships. This scholarship honors skilled individuals who are passionate about building, serving, and sustaining our communities through trade work.

Rules

Applicants must:

  • Be a graduating high school senior, high school graduate, or have a GED equivalent. 
  • Plan to enroll, or be enrolled, in an approved trade-related program at an accredited institution (technical/vocational school), public service program, or apprenticeship. Verification will be required.
  • Be an active GECU member with an open deposit or loan account.
  • Demonstrate passion, work ethic, and commitment to their trade of interest. 

When applying, you will be required to provide the following: 

  • Two letters of recommendation. These can be from your employer (if applicable), a teacher, a co-worker, a mentor, a volunteer supervisor, etc. If you are enrolled in a company-sponsored apprenticeship program, one of your letters of recommendation must be from your employer. 
    • You will be able to upload a copy or enter your references' contact information to request they submit on your behalf. 
    • Letters of recommendation may not be written by a member of your family.  

Note: It is recommended you have a plan for your letters of recommendation ahead of beginning the application. When filling out your application, you will be able to save your progress and return to where you left off, but you will need to complete each page in full before advancing to the next section. The letters of recommendation will be the last piece needed prior to submitting your application.
