Since our founding in 1874, the College of Engineering has produced alumni whose achievements have shaped our world. The Purdue Engineering 38 by 38 award is inspired by the legacy of one such alumnus, Neil Armstrong, who was 38 years old when he became the first person to set foot on the moon.

The award celebrates the remarkable achievements of 38 Purdue Engineering alumni who are 38 years old or younger who have demonstrated an accelerated trajectory of professional success and whose achievements have made a significantly high impact relative to their work. They are trailblazers in their respective domains, driving positive impact with every giant leap they take.

1. Submit your nomination by the deadline of January 31, 2024. Anyone can nominate; you do not have to be a Purdue alum or know the nominee. There are no self-nominations.

2. Ensure your nominee is eligible. All living Purdue Engineering alumni who are graduates of the Purdue University College of Engineering (including Purdue University in Indianapolis), Professional Master's Programs, and Purdue Engineering Online and who are 38 years old or younger on January 1 of the year of the ceremony in which they would be honored are eligible (i.e., a 2024 nominee must be 38 years old or younger on January 1, 2024). The nomination is not open to graduates of Purdue Global, Purdue University Fort Wayne, Purdue University Northwest, or Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI).

3. Ensure your nominee meets the selection criteria. There are two key dimensions of selection criteria:

  • Accelerated Trajectory of Success: The nominee has had an accelerated trajectory of professional success by such measures as quickly increasing responsibilities or advancement to a leadership role; successful growth or sale of a business; early career recognitions within their company, institution, or industry; impactful discovery, learning, and engagement; and/or is highly regarded in their field.
  • Magnitude of Impact: The nominee's achievements have made a significantly high impact to their organization, to their board/shareholders, to society or to the community, i.e. as measured in units relevant to their work, such as sales, revenue, margin, licensing of patents, lives improved or saved, citations, start-up companies, etc.
