The Promising Educator scholarship was established by retired educators from Unit 4 and District 116 and is intended to encourage students to enter the teaching profession. 

In Unit 4 the Promising Educator scholarship provides financial assistance to Centennial and Central seniors who plan to pursue a career in education and encourages students to return to work in Champaign-Urbana Schools. In District 116 the Promising Educator-Social Worker Scholarship (named in memory of Michael C. Langendorf ) provides financial assistance to Urbana High School students who plan to pursue a career in education or social work and encourages students to return to work in Champaign-Urbana Schools.

A scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded to one senior from each high school.  THE DEADLINE TO APPLY FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP IS APRIL 10, 2026.

To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

  • Be a current Champaign Central, Centennial or Urbana Hihg School student
  • Graduating in spring 2026
  • Pursuing an education degree (Champaign Central and Centennial)
  • Pursuing an education or social work degree (Urbana High School)
  • Provide 1 letter of recommendation from a teacher, school administrator, community member or faith leader (letters of recommendation from family members will not be considered)
  • Provide a full transcript from your high school (unofficial or official)
  • Provide your SAI (student aid index) from your FAFSA
