The Mission of the VJAS is to:
(1) Encourage the development of practices used by scientists, engineers, and mathematicians with mentoring done by the VAS.
(2) Identify students who are providing leadership in solving important problems and give them the ability to be state leaders serving on the board.
(3) Assist in publishing student projects in the Proceedings and the VOICE (student publication).
(4) Encourage the pursuit of careers in science, mathematics, and applied fields by supporting these efforts in scholarships, meeting scientists, and
(5) Teach students how to develop a project, conduct research, draw conclusions, and make public presentations establishing critical thinking skills.
(6) Foster fellowship between VJAS and the Virginia Academy of Science (VAS).
