Young Women In Bio (YWIB) launched the YWIB Ambassador program in 2020 for students interested in championing and supporting the organization’s efforts to create educational and leadership opportunities in STEM for young women. Each school year, YWIB welcomes approximately 20 students to the new class of Ambassadors.
Who should apply?
Apply to be a YWIB Ambassador if you:
- Have a passion for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and/or Math)
- Demonstrate leadership and/or have an interest in promoting STEM within your school, community, and through social media
- Identify as a young woman and are a rising freshman, sophomore, or junior in high school within the US or Montreal
- Want to meet and interact with other students with a passion for STEM
- Have an interest in advancing YWIB’s mission
Ambassador Responsibilities
YWIB Ambassadors are expected to:
- Regularly educate themselves about STEM
- Champion YWIB’s efforts in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
- Attend virtual or in-person events and programs hosted by National and their local YWIB chapter
- Develop educational content and events both locally and nationally
- Help promote STEM activities in their community and on a national level
- Support YWIB social media campaigns that promote awareness of women in STEM
- Participate in STEM-building activities with their local YWIB chapter or WIB-National
- Attend the majority of activities (including in the summer) which may include company visits, hands-on activities, panel discussions, and larger, regional STEM events.
All YWIB Ambassadors who successfully complete the program receive a scholarship to support their efforts to effect positive change in the world of STEM.
Before applying, please look over our list of virtual events and ensure that you will be able to attend at least four per semester. Please note that topics are subject to change.
