Lambda Pi Eta offers five opportunities for outstanding chapters, chapter advisors, and students to receive national recognition for their embodiment of the six goals of Lambda Pi Eta. The winners are presented with their awards during the LPH Business Meeting at the NCA Annual Convention. Advisors and students are both eligible and strongly encouraged to submit award nominations. Award descriptions are detailed below.

Chapter of the Year Award
What makes each chapter unique is how it demonstrates and facilitates the goals of Lambda Pi Eta. The chapter that best exemplifies the six goals of Lambda Pi Eta, in addition to community service, receives the Chapter of the Year award. The Chapter of the Year will receive an award plaque and a $200 prize from the National Communication Association in recognition of the successful execution of and adherence to the principles and mission of the honor society.
Rookie Chapter of the Year Award
New chapters not only strive to reach the goals of Lambda Pi Eta, but must also find their place on campus and develop procedures and traditions that the chapter will adhere to in the future. The chapter that has been chartered within the last three years and best exemplifies each of these goals receives the Rookie Chapter of the Year award. In addition to an award plaque, the Rookie Chapter of the Year will receive a $200 cash prize from NCA in recognition of the successful execution and adherence to the principles and mission of the honor society.
Thomas L. Veenendall Advisor of the Year Award
The Advisor of the Year award, named in honor of Thomas L. Veenendall, recognizes the advisor who dedicated his/her time, energy, and service to the student members of their LPH chapter. The advisor who has best manifested the goals of Lambda Pi Eta will be honored at the NCA Annual Convention with a plaque for Advisor of the Year.
Jennifer Bender Rookie Advisor of the Year Award
The Rookie Advisor of the Year award recognizes the advisor who has served three years or less and has dedicated his/her time, energy, and service to the student members of their LPH chapter. The advisor that has best manifested the goals of Lambda Pi Eta will be honored at the NCA Annual Convention with a plaque for Rookie Advisor of the Year.
Stephen A. Smith Award
Lambda Pi Eta sponsors an undergraduate research presentation at the NCA Annual Convention. From the research papers selected for presentation, two awards will be given for the top-ranked individual and group-authored student paper. In addition to an award plaque, the Stephen A. Smith Award honors the award recipients with a check for $100.
*All students who submit a paper to Lambda Pi Eta at NCA’s Annual Convention will be considered for this award.
